The old town of Fries Mill had been a sawmill town originally built in the late 1700s. To get here, you can park directly at the intersection of Port Elizabeth-Cumberland Rd and and the old railroad. Walking west on the eventually leads to a trail that leads directly to the ruins of Fries Mill. There was not much left when I visited. I was only able to find two lone chimneys that were apparently part of an old tavern, although these ruins don't likely date back to the 1700s. I next continued further west on the railroad. This eventually led to a large, deep blue lake. On the edge of this lake were the ruins of the New Jersey Silica Sand Company, which were considerably more extensive than those of Fries Mill.
